PART 2: LIFELINE MALAWI NGODZI HEALTH CENTRE REPORT

Introduction

This report has been compiled by Lifeline Malawi and covers the health component of the FHI comprehensive support to orphans and other vulnerable children (Surrounding the Child) project in Salima district. The report highlights activities implemented in the month of December 2009 and provides an overview of activities planned for January 2010. The report is submitted to the Project Coordinator/Manager at FHI offices for information, record and feedback.

The highlights of this report include attendance data from the four mobile outreach clinic sites entirely supported by the project. Other activities implemented in December included continued delivery of general outpatient services, screening and treatment on site of common disease conditions among under five year old children at Community Based Childcare Centres (CBCCs) and HIV Counselling, Testing and referral for Antiretroviral therapy within or outside Lifeline Malawi structures. Monthly review meeting will be held on Wednesday 13th January, 2010 at Lifeline Malawi Offices in Lilongwe.

Achievements

In general two event greatly affected implementation of activities in the month of December. Two week Christmas/New-year break and rampant fuel shortages meant that there was less available time for project activities and activities had to be prioritized amongst the priorities. All the eight mobile outreach Clinic visits were suspended due to the ongoing fuel shortages. The static Clinic services continued to be provided at Lifeline Malawi Ngodzi Health Centre. Services provided include treatment of minor ailments and referral, Under-five Child health services, Maternal and Reproductive health services (including antenatal care, skilled health worker attended delivery of pregnant women, family planning, PMTCT and treatment of STIs), provision of HIV Testing and Counseling and treatment of AIDS opportunistic infections as well as provision of antiretroviral Therapy. The number of deliveries conducted at our Maternity unit is steadily increasing.

Outpatients Care

In December, a total of 2,247 patients were treated in the Outpatients department of the static clinic at Lifeline Malawi Ngodzi Health Centre. All the Eight mobile outreach visits were cancelled due to fuel shortage.
