HIV AIDS

In some areas, 1 in 4 of the population has HIV/AIDS

Your donations fund the following programs to help with this:

  • Behavioral Change Outreach Workshops -there is a huge social stigma towards HIV, how it is spread, how you “get it” and the treatment. We have teams that go out into communities presenting messages on changing their behavior or ritual customs
  • Testing - We are able to give patients their results in under a minute. However we do more than that, thanks to our specific HIV/AIDS clinics and staff we counsel our patients before the test and after the test to help them understand the results and to know the help we can give them. Most importantly, these results are confidential.
  • Treatment anti retro virals - Lifeline Malawi was one of the first organizations to be using ARVs before governments had even requested them. These drugs can literally bring people back from the verge of death to live a “normal” life for many years to come.
  • Preventing mother to baby transmission - Without treatment, 30% of pregnant ladies would transmit the virus on to their babies. Through medication we have seen this reduce to 2%.
  • Support groups - We host a meeting group called People Living With AIDS. They provide day to day support for each other – people struggling with the same issues.

The cost to us for a patient to visit one of our clinics for an assessment, counselling and testing os $5.00. Our patients hey are not charged for the visit. This is our cost to run the program.
