Chris Brooks

Chris BrooksBorn in London England Dr. Chris Brooks knew early in life that he wanted to be a doctor serving the poor in Africa. Chris began his formal education at Cambridge University where he achieved honours in medicine. From there his studies and distinguished medical practice took him to London University, St. Thomas Hospital where he was the Lecturer in Anatomy, and became a member of the Royal College of Surgeons. Dr. Chris then went to Mildmay Mission Hospital, London where he served as a Senior Surgical Resident before immigrating to Canada in 1970.

In Canada Dr. Chris settled in Banff, Alberta, opened a  General Practice, and was on the active staff of Mineral Springs Hospital Banff and Canmore District Hospital, Canmore Alberta, with full surgical, obstetric and anaesthetic privileges, and then on to Calgary, Alberta to set up a General Practice there.

In 1998 God’s call on Chris’s life became inescapable and that boyhood conviction to serve the poor in Africa emerged renewed. After a course in Tropical Medicine at the University of Liverpool, Dr. Chris, along with his wife Heather and three year old daughter Chloe left Canada for Malawi, East Africa where Chris has served as medical missionary ever since. In 2003 Chris Founded the Canadian charity Lifeline Malawi with the vision of, “Bringing life transforming hope and healing to Africa.”

From humble beginnings Chris’s vision of Lifeline Malawi has grown to become a formidable success with two fixed clinics and numerous mobile clinics that treat nearly 150,000 patients every year. Recently, Chris responded to the pleas of local government to open maternity wards on his clinic sites and in early 2009 both wards were made available to women in rural Malawi who suffer one of the worst maternal mortality rates in the world.
